La bella e bionda Castellana ama la vita e sa che sua figlia Azzurrina, tutta bianca e quasi trasparente nonostante il nome, possiede il dono straordinario del canto, sa parlare con gli uccelli, coi fiori e con le foglie degli alberi; purtroppo il principe guerriero, sposo e padre, non ne sa apprezzare le doti e anzi ritiene che proprio la figlia sia causa di quel dolore acuto e profondo che lo rende diffidente, insensibile e crudele. La scrittrice intreccia con indiscussa bravura i fili della storia e il lieto fine arriva con il miracolo di un pianto liberatorio: i singhiozzi del principe rendono il cuore più leggero, il dolore "più buono" e consentono finalmente l'esposizione di tutti i colori del mondo: che sono tanti e sempre in mutamento. Le qualità del libro hanno trovato un'affascinante interpretazione figurativa nelle illustrazioni di Octavia Monaco e anche questo rende "Azzurrina" un testo unico e straordinario, capace di incidere nell'immaginario dei lettori piccoli e grandi.

The beautiful and blond lady of the castle loves life and knows that her daughter,  completely white and nearly transparent inspite of her name, has got the extraordinary gift of singing, she can talk with birds, flowers and tree leaves; unfortunately the prince warrior, husband and father, doesn't appreciate his daughter's gifts and he believes, on the contrary,  that she is the source of the sharp and deep pain that makes him mistrustful, insensitive and cruel.

The writer weaves the story threads with undiscussed cleverness and the happy ending comes with miraculous liberating weeping: the prince's hiccups make the heart lighter and the pain "kinder" and finally allow to expose "all the colours in the world, which are many and constantly in change".

The qualities of the book have found a fascinating figurative interpretation with Octavia Monaco's pictures and this also makes "Azzurrina" an extraordinary and unique text, able to impress on the imagination of younger and older readers.
